Brinson+Banks on getting “a little weird” with award-winning theoretical physicist and string theorist Joseph Polchinski for Quanta Magazine

“Joe is a member of UC Santa Barbara’s Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) and professor of physics at UCSB. Our task was to visually tell the story of how he gets his brilliant ideas, including his ‘firewall argument,’ which explains the paradox on the nature of black holes (something well over our heads),” explain Brinson+Banks. “Joe will work at his chalkboard and then roam the campus to think, so we photographed him in his office right at the chalkboard we found him doing equations at when we arrived, and then we photographed him along the coast on the campus—and we got to get a little weird with it.”
