Iooss and Leifer at the Annenberg

On November 12, a major exhibition featuring two of the greatest sports photographers in history will open at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles.  “Sport: Iooss & Leifer” will showcase 80-plus prints by Walter Iooss and Neil Leifer. Walter, of course, has shot nearly 300 covers for Sports Illustrated, in addition to photographing nearly every major sports event in the past 40 or so years (including all 43 Super Bowls). And Neil, who has been shooting for some 50 years, has also photographed hundreds of magazine covers and, like Walter, published numerous books.

I could list all of their credits, but it’s so much better to let the photos speak for these guys. When you see their work, you know you’re looking at real artistry. I’ll be at the opening reception on the 13th and will tell you all about it afterward right here. For more details on the exhibition, which will be on view through March 7, please visit the Annenberg’s site.

“Sport at the Annenberg Space for Photography: It’s
Not Manila But It’s a Thrilla”

To borrow liberally from the wisdom of Yogi Berra, that giant of American letters, “It isn’t over till you’ve visited the new show at the Annenberg Space for Photography.”
