Essence asked Nino Muñoz to photograph 21-year-old singer and actress Keke Palmer, who began her career as a child and whose star continues to rise and rise. Palmer has her own syndicated talk show on BET (she’s the youngest TV host with her own show, in fact), is starring in the upcoming movie Brotherly Love, and recently played Cinderella on Broadway.
“I know that the role of Cinderella is primarily for a Caucasian girl, but it didn’t stop me from going in and it didn’t stop them from seeing me,” Palmer tells Essence. “There is a bit of intimidation. You think about Denzel, Viola Davis, and you think, Only great people can do Broadway. That was the scariest thing about it, but I’m the type who thrives on pressure.”
Go, Keke, go.
