When The New York Times asked Brinson+Banks to photograph three of the stars of the movie The Big Short—Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, and Finn Wittrock—the duo decided to divide and conquer. That is, instead of one of them doing all of the shooting, both of them shot portraits to make the most of the limited time they had with the actors.
“Finn and Ryan arrived a couple of minutes before Carell, and they played Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide who would be photographed individually first” says Kendrick Brinson. “Ryan Gosling lost.”
“For the group shot,” adds David Walter Banks, “all three subjects had their own spotlight, but since Finn’s was less obvious, he jokingly said we had left him in the dark, which cracked up the other two actors.”
