APA|NY, the New York chapter of the Advertising Photographers of America, has launched a photo contest to showcase the creative exploration that’s flourishing despite our anemic economy.
“This display of work will provoke conversations that highlight the talents of photographers in the New York region, putting them on the map for excellence across all genres of work. In return for your submissions, APA|NY promises to reward winners with not only exciting prizes, but also a full year of exposure and promotion to celebrate your work,” according to a promo for the contest.
The contest is open to anyone, and best of all, the prizes are pretty much all tools that you can use in your photography business—stuff like a North American membership to Agency Access, BlinkBid estimating and invoicing software, and a PhotoServe Portfolio.
You’ll no doubt recognize at least a few names from the panel of judges:
Paul Aresu, photographer
Marge Casey, lead agent, founder, Marge Casey + Associates
Steve Farrell, EVP/executive creative director, Publicis Modem
Celeste Holt-Walters, senior art producer, McCann-Erickson; curator/consultant, Heart Art Productions
Aurelie Jezequel, cofounder, Resource Magazine
Stella Kramer, consultant
Brenda Milis, director of photography, Men’s Health
Alexandra Niki, cofounder, Resource Magazine
amani olu, cofounder and executive director, Humble Arts Foundation
To be eligible for the contest, the work must have been created after January 1, 2009. The entry deadline is June 4. For more details, including the list of categories and a complete rundown of the prizes, go here.
