A new overseas campaign for Red Bull reflects just how influential retro-centric iPhone apps like Instagram and Hipstamatic have become to advertisers eager to reach a visually savvy young audience. Some of the photos have a faded-Polaroid look, while others have a scratched-up old-camera effect or are super-saturated in that yummy Kodachrome way. They are, in a word, hip. And it doesn’t hurt that they feature handsome Austrian Olympic medalist Gregor Schlierenzauer, a world-champion ski jumper and ski flyer.
Red Bull Creative produced the campaign, which was photographed by Uwe Duettmann (see his previous Red Bull work—a series of athletic-aggression-fueled portraits—here). The creative director was Thomas Kurzawski, and Dominic Wacker was the art director. Here’s a look:
