Brinson+Banks on photographing Issa Rae, creator and star of HBO’s “Insecure,” for The Washington Post

Brinson+Banks photographed Issa Rae, whose second season of Insecure premiered on HBO this past Sunday, for The Washington Post at the London West Hollywood Hotel, where they recently shot Will Ferrell.

“Oftentimes when we photograph actors, they’re in the middle of a super-long and super-busy day promoting their show or movie. Our job is to connect and make beautiful, unique images in just a couple of minutes in a hotel room, which can be quite a task in itself, but I imagine being an actor and going from room to room, to photographer to reporter, must be so draining,” say the photo duo. “Issa had been doing some videos for Insecure down the hall all day when we caught her, and she still came in with a smile on her face and was lighthearted and easygoing and generous with us. There’s an art to that, for sure.

“And by generous, I mean she sat on a pillow on a chair in the hotel bathroom shower and trusted that we’d make a good photo in such an unusual space—and was enthusiastic about it, too!”
